My Introduction

lastofthemI grew jack-o-lantern pumpkins every year as a kid in Washington state. It was no secret that I loved pumpkin pie and I grew them to make sue we had plenty! One thanksgiving my mom went to start the turkey and noticed all the pumpkin was missing from all the pies and so she started the investigation. Of course, all of us kids replied not me, but with pumpkin pie from ear to ear, yea, it was clear who done it! Twas I!

Ground Zero.......Getting them outside

Day 1 After germination the seedlings grow fast......

The roots grow fast.....and I move them to a bigger pot at day 2 or 3......For competition plants we dont want them to get root bound. I used 4 gallon pots this year.

Germination under the lights

Plants are set in 4 gallon containers under the grow lights. This system consists of two 40w grow lights and two 500 watt haliades.

Slow start to 2009 season.

I've got a lot of work to do before the season starts. This Apr 16 snowstorm will delay that work a few days. Looks like the storm impacted a good chunk of the rocky mountain region.

Below is a link to a photo album of my 2008 season. Lots of photos with brief comments. Some of my "props" are a little unorthidoxed, but they seem to work ok for me. Maybe someday I'll get caught up with everyone else and build a greenhouse. lol
